The Opportunity
Pet Products Development Services (PPDS), a major player in the pet product manufacturing sector, approached Choice Energy with a clear goal: reduce operational costs and carbon emissions. With a facility spanning nearly 7,000 square metres, PPDS had the roof space and daytime energy demand to make solar an attractive investment.
Motivated by the opportunity to pair solar with a Power Factor Correction (PFC) system, the business saw a chance to maximise value, targeting both energy savings and efficiency gains through a comprehensive energy solution.
The Solution
Choice Energy designed and installed a 350kW commercial solar system alongside a 200kVar Power Factor Correction system tailored for PPDS’s large-scale operations. The solar array was engineered to offset around 60% of the business’s daytime electricity consumption, delivering significant environmental and financial benefits.
The project also secured $287,000 in VEEC funding, supporting a fast return on investment and improved sustainability outcomes.
The Result
Since activating the system, PPDS has achieved $79,680 in annual savings through solar generation, $9,500 in annual savings from improved energy efficiency via Power Factor Correction, significantly reduced its reliance on the grid, and substantially cut its carbon footprint—resulting in a more stable and sustainable energy profile for the business.
The Installation
Due to the size of the facility, installation required careful planning and execution. Specialist equipment was used to safely install industrial-grade inverters, each weighing over 100kg, ensuring a seamless and compliant process across the vast roof area, Despite the complexity, the install was completed with minimal disruption to daily operations.
Having considered other providers, the team at PPDS selected Choice Energy due to our reputation, previous experience, and the relationship built through direct engagement. They appreciated our ability to simplify a complex project, offer tailored advice, and provide a full-service approach that extended beyond just solar.
